NHJan,
Cars would only be crushed if the drivers were being "hoons".
I think you would find that most people who have put their blood sweat and tears not to mention $'s, into their cars, would not be driving like "hoons" because they would be waiting to head out to the ADELAIDE MOTORPLEX Once again, may I mention that some people have dedicated race cars that cannot be driven on the road and could only be drven at the ADELAIDE MOTORPLEX
...................Hint, Hint |

if the govt say that the track will be too noisy for neighbours then why not create a residential subdivision for motor sport enthusiasts - just like a marina development but replace the water and boats with bitumen and cars - then the residents can drive their race car along the private access road to the motor sport park - and on a lovely Saturday evening sit back and enjoy the sound of a Top Fueller while cracking a coldie around their BBQ |

There is no spin.

Hi - it will be incredible for SA to have not just 1 but 3 motorsport venues - Mallala and now we have Tailem Bend Motorsport Park on line
http://www.sportingcarclubsa.org.au/Content/Uploaded/Assets/TBMP%20Info%20%20Leaflet.pdf
Once Adelaide Motorplex is up and running SA will be the motorsport capital of Australia. Just think of all the investment by teams and visiting teams and spectators - great for SA |

Hi All,
For those who are unaware, our dear friend and colleague Roc Puccini, is at present undergoing the fight of his life. Roc is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
My prayers, thoughts and strength go out to Roc and his family during this extremely hard time. The Drag Racing fraternity know only too well of Roc's fierce determination when competing and I am sure all pray that very determination will make him a winner in this race.
God Bless Roc and hurry back to us soon!!!!!!!!!!! |

| No, not really, we are still in the same position as we were a couple of days ago I guess. It's just that yesterday there was some news going around that we had finally got the land or something along the lines of that, which was false. We still need to wait for the tesitng to be completed and hopefully all goes well. (That's what I understand anyway) |

For your Information.
The Department of Transport and Regional Services ( DOTARS) in Canberra has amended its import approval guidelines to prevent " drag racing cars " from being imported into Australia. This is effective as of the 4th of May 2010.
I will be raising this issue with my local Federal Member of Parliament.
Drag cars and race cars have previously been imported without restriction.
I have forwarded this to ANDRA for their information.
Kind regards
- Rob
ALERTS
Importation of converted vehicles under the pre-1989 scheme
The Department has received applications to import converted vehicles under the pre-1989 scheme. This includes replica cars, drag racing cars and hot rods. It is important that you read this summary of the pre-1989 scheme before you consider importing a converted vehicle into Australia.

| In The Advertiser SAPOL are highlighting the ongoing "problem" with hoon drivers. We have to look at what we are dealing with - is it REALLY the HUGE issue that Inspector Newitt says it is? How many of his so-called "hoons" were involved in crashes, how many were seriously injured, how many were killed, what real problem to society is caused by youth letting off steam in a "closed off" industrial estate where the access points are monitored, does taking their licences off them stop them driving or do the just drive un-licensed, are these defected cars any less safe than mum's camira or telstar, or does it all just make good headlines in a society that will not even entertain alternative solutions, such as controlled off street racing venues, Police involvement in motorsport, community garages, driver education in senior school, driver training including practical defensive driving (and NO - not Advanced Driver Training), annual roadworthy inspections, easier engineering compliance for proven safe modifications .... The list goes on. Our SAPOL resources could be better deployed into constructive areas to address Insp Newitt's so called problem. A Adelaide Motorplex would be the best step towards addressing the issue. |

Sorry Guys that I have not been on the site recently. I am actually in Melbourne at the moment as my mother is in a critical condition.
Anyway the latest news is that we were contacted today by the LMC to say a letter is on its way with the conditions attached with the land. Until we receive this I can not give you anymore info - at least they have kept their word by contacting us today. Will let you know when we receive the information.
Please be patient - we have waited this long and a little longer will not kill us - providing we get the desired outcome! |

Looks like a lot of people wandering what's going on. This is what I can assume from info on this site.
By reading the last post on 15th April by Anna regarding this, she said they are waiting on the official document from LMC saying that they will release the land as long as all the results of the studies are positive - which they should see at the end of this week.
Then, once they recieve this document, the consortium will begin undertaking the studies. As Anna said in previous posts, these studies will take a few months to complete.
Please correct me anyone if I am wrong. So guys, we still have to be patient and keep our fingers crossed for a little while longer.
Hoping we all feel the ground shake under us from 2 Fuelers launching off the line soon. |

Melbourne Newspaper Article of Interest
Our compatriates across the border are also fighting an uphill battle !!!
DRAG VENUE LACK COSTS MILLIONS
By Neil McDonald Herald Sun 08 April 2010
Victoria is missing out on millions in potential revenue because it does not have a legal drag racing venue.
The State is also neglecting an opportunity to get hoons off the streets and into a safer, regulated location to show off their cars, according to Australian National Drag Racing Association project director, Gary Miocevich.
Miocevich wants the Victorian Premier, John Brumby, to intervene in the three-year battle to get a new facility, particularly with a State election due this year. "He should show some leadership on this," Miocevich says.
More than 1700 people have registered their views on the Victorian Premier's website. Miocevich is the project director of the Andra initiative, Motorvate Melbourne, which is campaigning for a new Victorian drag racing facility.
He says the government's own studies have shown a drag venue would bring in $190 million a year to the state. "The Government is supportive but they don't seem to understand what a drag racing venue really is," he says.
"Quite frankly it has not being listening to their constituents and in reality drag racing is part of the Labor heartland." The proposed Melbourne venue would combine drag racing with a kart facility, driver training and have room for grassroots motorsports enthusiasts for drifting and motorkhanas.
"It makes sense to combine a whole lot of motorsport activities in one area," Miocevich says. He says it is curious that government costing of the facility has blown out from $38 million to $60 million when a state-of-the-art drag venue in Perth cost $20 million.
Andra wants a new facility beside the Melbourne-Geelong freeway between Melbourne and Avalon. The Calder raceway has been ruled out because it is too close to new housing developments. "Nor does the venue meet the FIA or ANDRA standards for drag racing," Miocevich says.
Miocevich says that if a track was approved tomorrow the "longest part of the process is getting the government to come on board". "The shortest part of the whole job is actually constructing a venue," he says.
"The Perth venue was built in 10 months." Miocevich says a specific facility would provide significant social and community benefits. "You can see the frustration with youth on the streets," he says.
"The illegal hooning and street racing that occurs is not motorsport. "If you can provide a safe and organised venue where these people can go, you won't eliminate the problem but you have a safe and legal place for it."
Miocevich is disheartened over the lack of action. "I guess it's easier for governments to do nothing than address the issue," he says. "If you look at drag racing there has been no ANDRA championship venue for 10 years and that's just unacceptable."
Miocevich says the Government is happy to invest in facilities for AFL, tennis, golf and harness racing fans but when it comes to motorsport "unless you come from the big end, the Grand Prix end of town you don't get a look in". "I think its unfair and its wrong," he says.

| Hi. Just a cople of things for the Prem Mr Rann to think about. 1, I do hope or dream that this motorpelx will not only have drag racing. Has some of us like to put a bend at the end of the strip. I race a Tarcam Rally cars built for turns and bends. Also to bring South Aust in line with other states. Can anyone change the ruling on full roll cages. Only having a half of a cage is a bit pointles, to me when. The Emergency services have the new Jaws of life that will cut throw the roll bars. faster than I can eat a finger bun. Thanks I await the day this motorplex OPENS for business. Thanks and good luck to you. Craig |

I saw the story on the news (channel 7) tonight and the story was a little longer than the usual snippets that get shown, which is a good thing. I thought it was good enough to give the public a little awareness of what is going on.
Well done.
ps. I cant help but think that it is rather ironic that Mick Doohan is standing on a drag strip at the end of his commercial promoting road safety (which by the way is MAC and SA Government supported)...... at least they are listening |

Wow, incredible.
I can't believe someone would actually go to the trouble of printing flyers and distributing them to residents. To top it off, using the logo's of some of the supporting companies. Rather strange really. The person/s doing this are obviously rather simple and have made an absolute joke of themselves.
What is their agenda? Are they local residents? Are they people involved with Tailem Bend? They must have a vested interest in either of those issues at a guess because what other reasons are there. Jo blow wouldn't exactly know what companies are behind the motorplex so they have executed their attempt very poorly.
Bring on April 15, eagerly awaiting the results of that meeting.
Keep up the good work Anna and co, we are all thankful for the long hours and stress that you all must be under.
Matt |
