The benefits have been made clear.

The values and beliefs of the public are indicative of the fact that the need is more apparent than ever.

The supporters are many, and from all walks of life.

Let's make this happen.

This has been an issue for years now, and yet the government has done nothing. Everyone talks about hoon drivers and the risk they pose on public roads, but where is the facilities and neccesary precautions to keep the public safe eg: a working track for recreation? Im sure all hoons would rather be on a track than the streets, I know I would!

Im hopeing this will actually be a possibility and not just another topic to debate about for the next 10years. Adelaide could not only benifit from this safety wise, but it could possiblly also be another attraction to pull in the crowds for tourism..

I will be there to support the cause! 6(^)6

We have the backers... we have the money... this is a complete no-brainer! We just need the nanny-state Government of this state to realise: It's called RECREATION for a reason.

Mike Rann, you want hoons and want-to-be-racers off the roads where they pose a risk to public safety,

yet in the same breathe you are not assisting in finding an alternative for such activities.......

are you required to be a hypocrite to be in politics these days or are getting ready for retirement???

This will provide a tourism benefit for this state and more-so city and have the prospect of getting

the idiots off the roads with events and track days.

Really looking forward to a major tourism catalyst which costs the taxpayer nothing and also provides the first drag strip in Adelaide in almost a decade.

What possible reason has the government got to refuse the availability of the land?

Surely this must be a no brainer for the federal government!?!

Given current concerns about "hooning" coupled with the mounting road toll, surely a vent for enthusiasts to test their machines either in competition or an unsactioned track day type event would alleviate the temptation to do so on the street. Secondly it will create employment opportunities in both construction and maintenance/running of the facility which the state desperately needs.

C'mon Rann government for the relatively small funding this project will cost the benefits far, far outweigh the expenditure.

After living in Japan for 2.5 years and seen what small (but common) facilities they have, where you can go on a 400m circuit for $50 an hour whenever you like (or book), the complete lack of similar facilities in what should be one of Australia's greatest states is utterly shocking. If other states can do it, SO CAN S.A.

It is about time this ancient government gets the message, and then hopefully not too far away get voted the hell out. We are the most backward state in the Nation by far, and the conservative attitudes of Rann and his cronies is absolutely deplorable.

On hoon laws and car crushing propaganda: I would like someone to present to me the number of deaths on our roads so far this year attributed to drag racing and hoon behaviour. And then analyse how many of them are country, and have absolutely nothing to do with speed cameras, 50 zones or hoon laws. Seems every death I hear about is on a highway and almost all involve alcohol, whether reported or not.

Either way, we need somewhere a drag strip to go get it off our chests, rather than force people to make poor decisions and do it on the street.
